hey guy's just wondering if anyone has come up with a design or an idea to run an unifilter or the like directly from the throttle body straight up through the bonnet. Not planning on doing it at all but just wondering what you think about the idea.

You could use a phase 3 shaker bonnet air scoop or WRX if you wanna use panel filter. high rise bonnet scoop if its a pod. I reckon a elbow joint pipe will do the job, have it in a way that it'll sit above the rocker cover{center} just imagine all that fast moving air stream flowing over your bonnet, getting ready tobe harnessed. even better, imagine that supercharged induction sound it would make.

I'm actually looking at doing just this.
I've just fitted an EL GT scoop to my bonnet and the hole is directly above the throttle body. You could pretty much fit the pod straight to the throttle body itself, but you'd have to shield it from the head coming from the rocker cover and make a but of a box that butts up with the bonnet to form a seal. The only problem with my current set up is that the vents are facing backwards to suck the air out rather than force it in...

Make the scoop facing backwards!!!!
The best place to suck cold air from is the low pressure area directly in front of the windscreen!

The best place to suck cold air from is the low pressure area directly in front of the windscreen! but then you loose the advantage of the ram air induction going along the highway and that. although it's probably not much. but if SVO is right that you loose torque, I wouldn';t do it. |

I driven the ute around the block without the intake piping just for experimental, loved it. there wasn't any torque issue at all.

What about when it rains, you will get water straight on the pod wont you? (unless you have the scoop facing backwards).

I'll have a fiddle, make something up and next dyno day I'll test it and see how it goes (even if it's just made of PVC as prototype
I don't know what the torque readings were like, but gains were had running with nothing at all connected to the throttle body, altho this was more a case of no air filter, but I suppose even if you use this set up just for the drags or what ever it'd be cool

The best place to suck cold air from is the low pressure area directly in front of the windscreen! on mine/my parents trans am its "power bulge" is a scoop facing the window. When the throttle gets to a certain position (ie flat to the floor) it opens a flap in the intake and it draws extra air from the base of the windscreen... |

Increased turbulence, less torque, poor throttle response and probably decreased economy.
Sequential scoop is the best option.

The best place to suck cold air from is the low pressure area directly in front of the windscreen! lol. It's a HIGH pressure area at the base of the windscreen. Go down to a wind tunnel if you don't believe me. But you're right in that it is the best place to suck air from. |
