hey guys im getting some bearing or brake noise from i think my right rear. car is a 03 ba futura wagon. has anyone had experience with this.
sometimes get the bearing rubbing noise when driving after being parked for a while. becoming more frequent. and getting a lot of brake squeal almost everytime I brake. i had asked my mechanic to check the pads etc last service, reckoned there was nothing wrong there, so thats why im leaning towards bearing. any ideas? or things to look for. cheers |

jack up rear end and spin wheel by hand u should b able to hear if bearings.

It could also be your handbrake shoes rubbing, get them checked and proberly get the handbrake readjusted as well, sometimes the discs arent put on correctly from factory and the disc does not sit on the hub properly and causes it to rub and make noise,hope that helps...Vito.

Incorrect fitting of discs from factory is almost impossible, even if it was it wouldnt cause the handbrake shoe to make a rubbing/swooshing sound after 5 years. Its more likely adjustment and cleaning of brake dust. My EL gets the same problem every 2 years. |

Sorry your wrong their joolz, i used to work at ford , they would come in for 15000km services,they never had the wheels off and the rear discs would be on the wrong way, the adjustment holes would be covered up by the disc,this would make the disc not quite sit correctly, i used to have to take them off and,adjust the shoes and refit correctly, it wasnt every car, just some,maybe done in the factory near knock off time on a friday arvo, sometimes everything would be seized together,sooo much fun...Vito.

Ok then i guess the supplier was never notified cause ive never heard anything of incorrectly fitted discs and pads. In this case i would doubt its the problem as im sure the car has done well over 15,00 k's

Well i have seen numerous cars with this problem and over-tightened handbrake cables from factory.Yeah its unlikely to have only 15000kms when its 5 years old, maybe it had new rear discs fitted and they were put on incorrectly, but yeah, most likely to be handbrake shoes and/or bad handbrake adjustment,sometimes the pins holding the shoes in place come loose, the adjuster cog seizes or thecable lever on the hub jams up...Vito

most probably diff carrier bearings pretty common fault

hey guys thanks for answers, pretty easy to check for wheel bearings and handbrake shoes, but diff carriers? i know sweet FA about diffs so where abouts do they sit? im guessing either side of the diff.
