evening guys, im about to sign for a 12/2003 BA XT, with 298,000km on it.
its just had its 300,000km service, and everythings pretty good on it, its just done highway km most of its life. i was wondering what things i should go over with a fine tooth comb, ive checked a few things over already, the trans shifts smoothly and dosent clunk, the diff surprisingly dosent make noise or clunk, the steerings sharp, and the engine dosent make any noises. overall, it looks and drives like a 150,000 car. cos im not the best at buying 2nd hand, can i get some other pointers from forum members and BA owners? cheers

Not just around salt... There are alot of instances in every climate that have b-series and Territorys rusting.
Piss poor rust proofing, painting and assembly is the cause. Usualy around seams and welds. Windows, boot and engine bay... And if you own a Ghia or the like, around the licence plate garnish too. Fordforums and the XR6T forums are starting to grow a big list. Some of the Territory stuff I was reading about today is pretty bad. |

One of the guys on FFAU I think it was, was told that on the Territory's Ford use a brace that sits on the seam in front of the tailgate striker to hold the tailgate open during the painting process.
This brace prevents that area of the seam from being properly rust sealed and painted, so a year or 2 into the life of the cars, they are already rusting in that area. |

Check colour of coolant and make sure it doesnt have trans oil in it. They can have big probs with transmission cooler failing and mixing coolant/oil. Even if ok i would still fit a external cooler that dosent use cooling from radiator water.
