hey guys think my O2 sensor on the xr6 is going, getting increased fuel consumption and the cars done a bit over 80 XXXkm's . just wondering who's already bought before and where from, ive looked at a couple of ebay ones but im not to sure on the quality of them or if it will fit.

Maybe try a auto parts store?
But I don't think the o2 sensor will be you're culprit. I'd be starting with new air filter, fuel filter, plugs, inlet manifold and isc ect cleaned, all if havnt been done lately, checking you're tyre pressure is something decent will help you as well. KnN air filters seem to help the b series breath alot better |

MTQ has the Bosch AU-BF2 sensor for $40 (Bosch P/N 0 258 986 603)
The sensors have usable life of about 80 000km, so changing it now is a smart idea. The service schedule has you changing plugs well after 100 000km, but I find that it's far too long and has been damaging coils. We do the plugs at 50 000km and we have been extending the life of the coils to more then cover the cost of changing plugs early. the ICS will have ZERO effect on economy, and you should never need to fit a high flow filter just to get economy back to where it should be. |

Thought the o2 lasted longer and was more expensive. My bad.
So if the isc is gunked up it won't affect the fuel useage.... It would be worth cleaning it and the intake and a new air filter. No point just doing half assed job and simply swapping out the o2. |

But just have a think about what an ISC does and when it's doing it job. Thats right at idle. It's sole job is to regulate air flow, nothing more. While at idle and the ISC is doing it's thing, the ECU is looking at the O2 sensor to swing the A/FR slightly either side stoich. So no, the ISC will not effect economy. You want to be a good mechanic that can actually diagnose problems, best you learn more about what each component does. Other wise you'll just be the bloke that replaces and cleans every thing and claims to have 'fix it'. |

But if you did, you be bloody good mechanic by the end of your apprenticeship. There is no place in my workshop for people that waste time replacing stuff in order to stumble across the real problem. |

Whilst on the subject of O2 sensors, I see some no name ones and then there are the Bosch ones. Obviously the Bosch one is more expensive but at the end of the day is the bosch one better or are they both the same just different brands?

One a bad day you can still get the Bosch ones for under $90. For the sake of a few dollars are the cheap no names even worth talking about? |
