Somebody actually forked out for magnets???

Anyone else noticed that since mythbusters busted the magnet scam that a new generation of devices promising the same outcome through infrared irradiation has appeared.

Exactly, these devices have been tested many times with no gains. I can't believe it is actually legal for these companies to continue to make these claims.

from ebay

Quote:
It works on gasoline, diesel, propane and natural gas. Cleans engine, lowers emissions, improves performance and mileage; savings from 7% to 20% (if gas is used, even more - to 25%), doesn't effect vehicle warranty, installation in few minutes on hose or pipe closest to engine. You can buy two units, if you have a space to put them especially on 6 and 8 cylinder engines.

The principle is that magnetic field make molecules longer - unwind them and oxygen has more access to atoms of carbon and hydrogen so it is better combustion. Also making them magnetic so they repel each other - they are not in clusters anymore.

This phemonena of declustering is used to soften a water. Install on your copper water pipes or even shower head.

I thought it was all crap, which is why i havent bought them in the last 20 yrs, lol, but its only 50 bucks. They are rare earth magnets  whatever that means, so you reckon its the CAI giving me better fuel economy??

yeah, i think the more free flow design of the f6 intake woud help with fuel economy moree than the magnet thingo... reminds me of the "Energy polerizer"..

Yeah definately the CAI thats doing it. The quote up there that mentions it makes the water softer is bullsh*t. Hardness/softness of water refers to the amount of dissolves ions such as calcium, magnesium, etc, in the water. The more ions, the harder the water. It mostly has to do with the ability to form soap suds. Magnets have f*ck all effect on hardness, and petrol (hopefully, depending on the servo  ) has no water in it.

Magnetic fields only effect electric fields and ferric materials (i.e. stuff with iron in it, i think maybe cobolt too). Petrol is hydrocarbons (carbons, hydrogens in different combinations), so magnets, especially of this size, have no real effect. If anything, the magnets would either clump them together (the opposite of their sales pitch) or just aling them when they are in the magnetic field, which is only for a short time when the fuel is near the magnet.

If anything, if the things are too tight it will just starve the engine of fuel

[quote="bowsaw"] They are rare earth magnets[quote]

i got 2 rare earth magnets a bloody decent size for my physics motor i made for $20.
They are freaking powerful magnets, made from Neodymium Iron Boron.
I dare you to drop one, or let them go close together, watch the suckers shatter and your $50 go down the drain.
