I wouldn't have picked that, what gives you that impression? |

From the marks on the bonnet Id say it started from the fuel rail,

fuel reg decided to s**t itself and leak?...then again the fire could have started somewhere else and slowly got to the fuel rail, causing more damage with the presence of petrol.
Could have also started at the battery terminal. *shrugs* phong =P~

yeah than it will have burnt up the insulation on the firewall and than caught the main engine loom there, and thats why the heat was there. It also explains the spread back up to the battery - p/s pump area. |

The cars only done 160k's - I would have thought that was premature for the PS pump to fail?
Then again, judging by the state of the firewall above the cat you may be right. |

Somewhere around the rear of the fuel rail, as is evident by the pattern of the burn marks. There rest of the damage is from radiant/convection heat. Is the firewall burnt back to bare metal? on that side? would say so. What was underneath the car? as in what dripped onto the ground? from the fire, or before hand? be traces of fuel i would reckon.
