Because the design of the cam would be related to the engine, compression, airflow and intake design. In that regard EA to ED is completely different to EF-EL. So what brand cam is it, etc, etc. You might get some more help if you tell us that. |

its a cms stage 2 cam by crescent motorsport, a couple of guys here in the forum are running them for good results...

yeah and he is surprised it didnt give me the numbers, he is now developing a cms3 for me, he has been really helpful, he knows his stuff. but there must be a fundamental difference between the earlier and later e series affecting the compatability. duration and lift have increased yet power is down! and as i said we tried different cam and ignition timing for no effective result. why have other manufacturers released different cams for earlier and later e series? i spoke to crow and they didnt tell me much...

Does he have any of these cams running in an EF/EL? Can he comment that it works fine in other cars?
Is it a regrind? If so, did you put too may shims in? Crow has an article on their website (or it used to be there) about the development of a cam for the EF/EL range. Basic summary is that is the EF/EL has completely different requirements than an EA-ED, and there was a great difficulty in creating a cam that added power as well as maintaining a good idle. If they went the power, they lost idle quality. If they went for idle quality, they lost power. From their point of view, EF/EL engines are very picky beasts. |

ah ok, i had a look on their site and couldnt see anything, if u know where to get this info from that would be really valuble to me. id like to know how far i can push a cam in this engine to get the most power possible still with a decent idle( i dont mind lumpy as long as its consistent and driveable) without changing the ecu...

I'm guessing its not there anymore. It is probably 6/7 years since I last remember seeing that article.
It was more based around giving people answers as to why they hadn't released a cam yet, as people were screaming for them, and they were detailing the difficulties of designing one. It didnt give any description as to what could be done with engine/cam combos Besides, good idle and big power generally dont go hand in hand in a EF/EL with a factory ECU. Only way you will be able to do it is with a big cam and a piggyback ECU to tune to the cams requirements or replacement of the factory ECU. |

The lobes are spaced differently on the shaft. Not easily compatiable. Also note that the E series run 2:1 rocker ratios where as AU's run 1.8:1. Therefore the AU's have higher lift in comparison to the E series. All E series motors except for the hybrids are compatable with thier cams. There isnt any major changes to ports, valves ect to effect the operation of the cam itself, with the exception of the EA fin head.
