Hi,
I am having trouble getting the whole cam chain tensioner to come out. The last part will not come out. I guess this is because I can not get it in the locked position.I don't have a special allen key is there a good way to get it locked? Cheers |

Cheers Just take the retainer out with a pair of needle nose pliers and use a magnet to take the last bit of the tentioner out.

If the last bit of the tensioner won't come out, thats because it will have engine varnish/sludge stuck to it.
I found the way to get them out is to spray Carby Cleaner down the front of the engine where the tensioner is situated, and at the same time, use a magnet on a stick to push and pull at it. Doing this will get it out, and necessitate the need to change the engine oil as it will be contaminated, and thinned down with Carby Cleaner. Then, once out, clean, assemble and use new 'O'rings to refit.

I have the retainer out but the last part of the tensioner feels like it is hitting something when I stick my finger in there and pull.Would WD40 work?

So you have taken out the inside shell, the Allen key part, the spring and the little d*ldo lookin thing behind the spring. And all that's left is the outer case?
Sometime I find if it's a little stuck a use a long screwdriver or prybar ect and lightly push the guide that the tention acts apon against the tentioner. Usually works but if it's not moving don't over do it you may break the guide. If not tyr and spin it side to side to break the contact, it will only be able to move like a mm or two but it you cat get it to shift it'll come out |

yea it's just the last piece, I thought I might leave it until I get the head off. then i might be able to push it out buy hand.
If I can get the head off. those head bolts are a bugger only got one loose after 1hour of trying. |

Do remember to use the propper sequence when removing the headbolts, what tools are you using. A half inch 14mm impact socket and a 2 foot breaker bar make light work of en

WD40, RP7, INOX...etc...won't work too well...they are a lubricant more than a " breaker-down" of engine varnish/sludge.
Use Carby Cleaner, even the cheapsh!t from Supercheap will do....and use a magnet to push and pull while spraying.......it does work, thats how I get them out. For the head bolts, I use a deep, 1/2" drive, 14mm single hex impact socket and a 3 foot long breaker bar.....never had a problem.....and the deep socket clears the rocker gear too. Be very careful when removing the head.....jam the breaker bar into No. 1 cyl, ex port, and lift gently to break the seal of the headgasket......so as not to snap off the camchain guide that sticks up on the inlet side. I made handles from some 1" x 1" RHS to make it easier to remove/replace the head.

+1 for IMPACT TYPE SIX POINT socket and big breaker bar - and I actually use the detachable half of my big trolley jack handle slipped over the handle of the breaker bar as well - about 5 foot of total leverage works real well

got it out.and got a recond cylinder head.Can I use wet and dry sandpaper to clean up the head.I have got it pretty clean but there is still a bit of carbon on the head.

Depends on whether whoever did it bothered to hot tank it etc. - strictly speaking it's not necessary to actually clean a head up completely squeaky even to fully condition and crack test it.
