Hi all
I have a new I6 on the build and now have come to cam choice I was going to get a custom cam made up through Clive cams in melb but with the mass shortage of semi finished cams to use as a base I am thinking i will have to go to a off the shelf cam. Now I need help to choose one I have had a look I am aiming towards a Crow stage 3 to give you an idea I have done so far *a mild amount of head work (polish, flow work) *full balance *extractors (Pacemakers 4499) *full 2.5 system *10:1 compresion *match porting *XR6 valve springs *tunable chip torque piggy back chip *3in intake pipe work with K&N filter *manual conversion *and all the little things plugs, leads and whatever else You might think its a simple task but to just match a cam to the work done? but it runs on gas (standard system not Gas Research) most of the time and I do a even balance of around town and highway work so I am looking for something that will work the best with the work I have done on petrol yet still run well enough on gas that it wont be a pain to drive on gas while making some good power figure. To tell the truth I am not sure if the gas will make a difference (it hasent so far) If no one can come up with a good base to suggest a particular cam then maybe someone can give me some ideas as to what I can do to make my choice easier or any other little improvements while I got it all apart, I do want to get the most out of the money I have put into this job so any help at this stage will be appreciated Thanx STADIC |

Crow, Crower, Crane, Wade, Isky websites all have "fill in" sheets that u can enter all the info that u have told us. These guys have been recommending cams to ppl b4 u were born!!! Try them for accurate advise.

Shame you aren't going straight gas or straight petrol.
As said asking the manufacturers would be your best bet, have a look at waggot cams too as they do customs. You will want something with fairly high lift, but you will need the right amount of duration so that it balances performance on petrol and gas.

I'm running dual fuel, crap sprintgas mixer...on an >300,000km EB2
paceys, cat, zorst, enclosed pod, 5spd, thermos, j3 chip dyno tuned, and a wade 977b which i'm very happy with...made 8rwkw more peak from before and after dyno, and made a steady 15rwkw more from around 2600rpm all the way to ~4500....you can feel a BIG difference in the mid range...on both gas and on petrol...

so what was your overall output in gas and petrol? it sounds like your rev range might be a bit high for my day to day work how did you find it all when it came to tuning?

I just ordered a new un-restrictive mixer this morning, should yield an extra ~20rwkw according to tuner...except now gotta get the car to actually run normally first

thats odd i was getting 129.7 on E10 and 125.3 on gas with a stage2 crow cam extractors factory cat and 2.5 system, K&N filter but i had dropped my cam gear when i did the cam and skipped a tooth on the oil/dizzy gear so it runs but it says that the cam angle is to far out of range for the computer to fix it
