Depends on what gas system you have, as well as what it's (cam) idle vacume is like. If you have a setup like a gas research or impco 425, it should be fine.
If you have a normal mixer ring & complex converter, it might not run to well, if at all.... Cheers ToranaGuy

Not sure on getting it to run, but performance wise I would definately go for something with less duration. Having run the 977B in an auto (with stock 3.08 gearing) on petrol I can say it was a good cam, but definately would be running higher diff gears/stall if I was going to use it again to get the most from it.
On std compression with gas it will be sluggish off the line. If you are running stock compression you really want smaller duration to keep your compression up. I would also try and get head shaved/AU gasket (which is thinner) if you can fit it in your budget.

I have an IMPCO 225 LPG setup in my EB wagon, with EL engine. I have a Wade 1673 cam, and it works great on LPG.

BenJ Being in the same sort of gas mixers like the 425, that doesn't surprise me at all. One of my Xr8's has a cam in it & an impco 425 fueling it. Runs pretty good, idle possibly a little more loppy than it might be on petrol but it's straight lpg. We need to know more about the OP's gas system. Cheers ToranaGuy

LPG normally handles cams pretty good.
I went for a cam ages ago when my car was N/A, was a cam that was normally not recommended for autos' etc etc due to bad idle. the LPG smoothed it out and it ran nicely.

it was one of wade's standard grinds, can't recall exactly which one, but it had the lobe seperation opened up to 110.
auto was meant to be 114, manual 112.

I'm running a 977B with a 110 LS in an auto, idles fairly lumpy, sometimes stalls and hunts a bit but for the top end power i highly recommend it. I'll get a stall and tune one day to get the most out of it.

i have a wade 1673 in my new motor with a heap other mods and runnin a t5 for my ef i havent got it in the car yet but i will be runnin the aftermarket as per original tickford gas kit, my dealer at wade said the 977B would run but not so good for the BBM engines as there factory more top end but the log setup gets more out of it being setup for my bottom end so he suggested the 1673 but who knows i took his word for it and the rev range was a bit high starting at 2200rpm in the 977B might be better for a auto?

I was running a wade 1636 in an EL auto on dual fuel with a sprint gas mixer ring setup, ran fine on either petrol or LPG.

My rev range in with the 977B doesn't start till just after 3000 properly. I have a different lobe sep though. It's not really good with my auto, if i had a stall it would be better. Would be a good skid cam for a manual ; |

Cheers ToranaGuy I think the OP gapped it cause he didn't get the straight answer that he wanted. Since he's gone and the thread has already been hijacked, I'm going to as a question. What is a good cam for an AU dual fuel (factory Vialle converter and mixer ring), auto, standard stall speed, 3.08:1 diff gears and stock exhaust (won't touch the exhaust till I turbo the thing). |
