Oh, and for ease of re-installing......Everyone shold by the lifter retainers from coventrys as this will make re-installing the lifters a much easier task.

However, it isn't nessessary. I've done it both ways, but with is a lot less tedious.

Ok guys, all the RPD cammed cars DO NOT fit these retainers as they hang up only slightly in the sholder in the rocker (when you pull them apart you will know what Im talking about) and it will tick. Ive dont that many cams now that I cant remember how many.

Tools that you will need

A copy of my cam install guide
A workshop manual for all the other stuff that Im too lazy to re-write in my cam install guide

All series cars cam install only
10mm
13mm
17mm
1/8 punch
approx 19mm-3/4" socket (helps to hold the rockers up whilst you push the lifters out  )
a battery powered drill is also VERY HANDY but only if you hate winding all 28 rocker bolts out by hand (a good job for the guy who thinks that he knows nothing about cars and doesnt want to lend a hand  )
a pair of bull nose pliers can also be handy if the rocker cover hose proves difficult to get off

EF/L cam install only
8mm for undoing of the throttle and cruise cables on the rocker cover
flat blade screwdriver for the induction hoses

All series with a valve spring upgrade
Spark plug adapter for your compressor
spring compressor
hammer & punch (to tap the retainers when the collets are stuck in them)
a bench grinder to shave the collets (strongly recomended)

All series with a vernier upgrade or if you decide to let the cam gear drop.
14mm
22mm Socket
3mm allen key
magnet (handy to get the timing chain adjuster out)
a vice and a file.(hold the retainer in the vice whilst you unwind the 14mm headed plug out of it, because it is easier to wind the whole lot out with this than trying to wind the barstard out with bent nose pliers as some workshop manuals suggest. Dress the retainer with a file if you bruised it up because you dont have soft jaws

If you can arrange for the list of tools that Ive specified then you should be right. Having both sockets and spanners in the sizes makes life easier too. One of the best inventions yet is the stubby ratchet spanners, great for those tight jobs. Happy camming

Would be interested to come & watch ...with beer of course!

I'm real keen on the RPD stage 2 with springs & vernier ...but realistically a month off having the spondula's for ordering.

I'm very ready to help. I've done mine 4 times now and could probably do it blind folded. And I have a torque wrench. unfortunately, i don't have a place to do it. Definately willing to help out but.

TEDs is beer flavoured water, pick a different beer.

Nice profile dude, ...post some pics!

Good to see another GLi owner.

If you can change cams blindfolded, I'm sure you will very useful!

I'm about a month off ordering an RPD stage 2 cam, springs & vernier ...so could definitely use your help come install-day ...are you up for it?

By the way, how do you find your cam performs?

Bit confusing tho', all this cam talk ...my mechanic maintains that installing a new cam into the I6 will make f**k-all difference without extensive headwork, bigger injectors etc.

What do you think?

That's what I wanted to hear!

Pity we don't have any definite Dyno results or rwkw to refer to...

You still want the clock ...and the s**t trip computer?

Done deal!

Will PM you with my address, so we can arrange a day for you to pick it up (will be in letterbox).

So, you reckon RPD Stage 2 is a good choice?
