I have been told that aftermarket cam upgrades on VCT model cars more or less dont exist (without running vernier gear - locking the VCT)... But from curiosity can I do a stock upgrade...
Do the xt and xr6 run the same cam? And similarly do the xr6t and f6 run the same cam? Oh btw, personally I'm interested in FG's. but for others sake, if you know about the B series setup you may as well through that in too.

Cheers Troyman.

Had a little read through that atomic site you posted above, I always assumed that these cams would need vernier gear too... But they don't? And are easily tuned?

well easily tuned via flash tune on the dyno...

Yeah that's alright...
I looked into it for my AUII XR6 VCT and everyone said just forget about it if your not putting vernier gear in there. So I just assumed it was the same for BA/BF/FG... Hmm oh well, glad to be proved wrong on this subject... But still, just from curiosity... Do the stock cams change?

you mean between std ,xr6 and xr6t??
std and xr6 is the same engine, no performance gains were given like the old tickford engines.. afaik the xr6t/typhoon cams are different to std, there may also be some difference in the factory lpg engine cams but not 100% on that one.. |

Would the reason that it's recommended to basically not use the VCT on AUs with aftermarket cams be because a J3 chip etc. hasn't been able to tune it, whereas it can be done by flashing the newer ECUs?

no, the au vct engine can be j3 or flash tuned, ive just turbo'd and about to get my au tuned and im keeping the vct operating..
imo on e series and au the vct engine isnt much of an upgrade compared to just putting a cam in a non vct engine.. i actually made more power in my ed (vct engine) by removing the vct and fitting an aftermarket non vct cam..but the vct will give more down low torque over a non vct engine or aftermarket cam.. on b series some do ditch the vct for vernea gears, most are normally chasing big big power.. but in saying that there are turbo guys out there making huge numbers on std cams...alot of the b series vct function is mainly for emissions and economy purposes.. food for thought... |

So basically your saying do some good research on it before committing money to it, and it's not all its hyped up to be... Lol
Cheers Troy man... Very helpful as always

Oh true. Very interesting stuff. Having a cam for exhaust and a cam for intake would give you a lot more variables, tuning wise I assume - whether many of those variables are beneficial towards what you want is another question though, haha.

from what i have read, SLIGHTLY better gains with more cost... hmm oh well... another subject for me to research. Have to do a big update on my build thread soon...
