It's an ED XR6 camshaft, and what I wanted to know, was if it has bigger lift than the standard Cam, and would that cause any problems if I use an AU headgasket?? I'm worried that if it has more lift it will put a valve into a piston... anyone know? Also, I just bought this exhaust: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=110211122940&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=001 And I've since been wondering what to do about the Cat converter. I read here on the forum that the standard ford one flows pretty well and that there is little benefit in an aftermarket one.. (I already have Genie interference extractors to go in as well) How do I tell if my standard one is any good and is it ok for me to cut and weld the flanges closer to the cat to enable it all to fit in? (ie is there anything I should look out for?) Many thanks once again.. rgds Frank |

I've never heard of any such problems and think you'd be safe using an AU gasket. If you need to replace yours, you can get a used cat from a late model V8 Commodore, it's close to 2.5". You will get better flow than a standard I6 cat, which itself is pretty good until you start pushing serious Kw. When my old cat died it rattled when shaken and when taken off it's flow was badly blocked. I'm told blocked cats glow [in the dark] after a good run. I've never tested this. Our local exhaust shop, who made my system, fitted a new after market cat to suit the V8 Com. at much less than a 'performance' one cost and claimed it had better flow. I don't doubt them. Also it's possible that the genuine GM one is stainless, I don't know for sure. My front pipe is welded to the cat, the next pipe after is flanged, so you should have nothing to worry about when re-positioning your flanges. Hope this helps, Paul

Since you buy things from ebay, they have high flow stainless steel cats starting at around 150. Go to your local exhaust place and get it welded up onto the catback and extractors (with flanges a***).

Spose I can always add a resonator later on if it's an issue..
is the exhaust good? or is it cheap and nasty? |

Bends are all good quality fits where it should cant remember the quality of muffler.Res would be the go.

I have a 2.5" super turbo muffler here that sounded good as the only muffler on my 351 V8. Was only used for 3 months and has been in storage ever since.. if it's too loud, I might try that one instead.
