Just quick question; You know how cams have their best power gain in a certain rev range, should it be best to get a stally that matches the minimum rev range on the cam? So if the rev range on the cam was; 2k-5k, it would be best to get a 2k or around about that stally to match the cam rev specs?

Cheers
Josh

preferably within 700rpm's of where the cam makes its peak torque

so if your car is making peak torque @ 3200rpm, then a 2800rpm stall will be suitable

Ah yes thats what i thought, so it'd be advisable to put in the cam, then get a dyno tune to find out what my peak torque is, then go from there.

pretty much yes, but a medium range cam, a 2500-2800rpm stall will be enough. A top end cam will need something like a 3000rpm stall, but thats where you start losing driveability

engine power can affect how high the stall "flashes" to when you take off at full throttle. My stall is rated as 2500-2800rpm, but it only flashes to roughly 2500rpm. If it were behind a turb'd falcon it would flash higher.

shorter diff gears also help the stall flash higher

in all honesty, its really hard to get all the advantages of a stallie on the street, as you get nothing but wheelspin on full throttle launches and find yourself giving it half throttle off the mark for better launches which kinda defeats the purpose of having the stall :)

A lot depends on the torque of the engine, and the weight of the car too.
I built a 351C, had a C10 auto, 9" LSD with 3.25 gears with a 2,500 stallie, and the donk would pull it over to 3,300 rpm. Its a Dominator stallie.
Yes, it has sh!tloads of torque.
