its a pretty big cam probably more suited for speedway use..
you will need s**t loads of compression and a good valve train to handle it.. |

Well if you scroll down a touch further you'll see the 844 has more lift and larger duration, or the 843.
Note the LSA too. |

I don't think there's any point in getting something that big unless you are going to rebuild the engine and get headwork and a tune to suit because a) you don't wanna be shaving a heap off the head as you won't have much left to play with if you do a headgasket and b) you don't wanna be spinning a stock half gone bottom end that isn't balanced over 6000rpm on a regular basis.

the xr6 valve springs might be ok ..
but with changing to a bigger cam like this.. you need to take into consideration that the std ecu is not going to like it and probably hunt like a b**ch and run really rich...so something like a j3 chip and custom tune will be probably needed aswell.. |

do you think that running the stock ecu for awhile,,, like lets say 6months. would there be any damage to hardware..if so what would be a safe running time with the stock ecu...

I'll be running the AU equivalent of the 845.. and no I wouldnt use stock springs. Valve spring recommendations are 115lb and the double valve springs from Crow are around 130lb, whilst stock is under 100 IIRC. You could run it on stock XR springs... but I wouldnt.
Idle will be all over the shop on a stock computer still running the ISC. I wouldnt do that either. Apart from super s**t fuel economy you'll be losing a lot of low end and mid range torque. You wont harm anything on the stock computer. I'd also invest in a Vernier adjustable cam gear as well, I'd say this cam would do very well with ~2 advance. |
