i now it sounds strange but could a faulty coolent level sensor effect fuel economy.ie:give the ecu a dud signal and go into limp mode.
this is on a au (didn't they have something as a safe guard if they ran out of water or something they could still be driven a short distance)? |

Maybe.....yes, that sensor at the back of the head is for when the coolant level drops too far, and gets too hot, then is just cuts spark to the cylinders ( sort of randomly ), but the injectors still work, so as to use fuel to help cool the engine, but only to a point.

the coolant level sensor is on the radiator overflow bottle...
the coolant temperature sensor is on the head... the AUs did have an overheat protection feature, it uses engine temp sensor not the coolant level sensor... all the coolant level sensor does is activate a warning light on the dash

ok thanks guys for the responses .i just trying to track down cause of REALLY poor fuel economy .im going to do fuel filter.iat sensor and oxy sensor and maybe change injectors...anything else i should do???

is it an XR6? I saw somewhere they could shut down 2 cylinders if they got too hot
