Put crow cam in yesterday, ive got major problems the lifters are screaming like a 1980 tractor, i reckon ive been given Eseries lifters the part number is RHT4000, they were different to my Au ONES i pulled out but i thought it would be ok cos i trusted my mech. Hopefully i havent damaged the cam or bent valves! Help needed please.

RHT4000 ESERIES OR NOT??

There is a big difference in size of the HLA's from early to later. The EA ones were quite big, and the later ones were smaller. Not sure if ED, EF, EL are same as AU.

^huh, thought you just pulled them apart, clean them up then put them backtogether.

about the noise how long have you driven it for?

on my many cam reinstalls, it would take 5>10mins idle then 15mins driving to settle the noise down.

There was a Ford TSB on this years ago, something about holding the RPM's up to 2,500 to fluctuate to 3,500, back down to 2,500 then up again. Do this for about 2-3mins.

EF-EL are the same, ED are larger, much larger cups in the rocker gear, dunno bout AU ones, pretty sure they are the same Size HLA's as the EF-EL one with the obvious difference of the actual rocker ratio, not effecting the HLA itself.

UPDATE took it for a spin the car starts pulling above 3 grand in manual changing, im losing brakes as well whilst in drive, blowing black smoke, all symtoms of a retarted cam ive been told and i believe it cos the cam is ment to kick in at 1000 not 3000, basically ive got everything i didnt want, getting the vernier gear tommorow i think im just gonna give to a mechanic, he can dial it in and be done with it.

The lifters have stopped screaming as well very strange

you will be hard pressed to get a cam that you actually notice it starts to pull harder at 1000rpm. thats just off idle.

these motors always start to pull a lot harder towards 3000rpm.

dunno how you managed to retard the cam? without gears they aint adjustable, unless you skipped a tooth while installing it.

if your losing brakes while driving you have a vacumme leak.

all your symtoms point to a large vacumme leak.

blowing black smoke (map sensor dumping fuel)
no low down guts (flooded engine)
still pulling up top (high enough in rev range to burn the fuel being dumped)
loosing brakes (large vacumme leak)

EA and EB lifters are the same. Same diametre.

ED to AU lifters are the same diametre, but the ED look similar to the EA/EB ones.

EF to AU are all the same and identical looking. And the part number you mention sounds familar from lifters I've bought from Repco.

Being that he has an AU, there would be no map sensor hose to bump off. Unless he's pulled the connector for the sensors.

I assume that you put the booster vaccum hose back onto the manifold and booster correctly.

Or one or more of the lifters weren't bled down properly before install and it is holding a valve open sligltly.

Or you have the wrong cam/rocker setup and all the valves are being held slightly open.
