as title says i can't get the fuel filter off, it has rounded the nipple's bolt cause the spanner slipped. any tips?
i sprayed rp7 on it and waited for abt 10 min and it did nothin. little help please. thanks

Damn i hope i dont have this problem when doing mine lol. But yeah i suggest mabe try and use whats been suggested by 4.9 EF futura, that should get it off.
Failing that try a really good open ended spanner or something and try to get it off using that..

i used an 14mm made in australia sidchrome open ended spanner.
will try vice grips. thnaks

Definately get vice grips to get the filter off.
When you get a new filter only get the Ryco Z373 filter. It doesnt need as much torque on the fittings to seal it because the casing is aluminium which is more malleable. The steel filters are s**t because you have to tighten the f**k out of them to get them to seal. I will not use any other filter apart from the Ryco one. |

It will loosen it up so you can get it off in 30 seconds. I would rather do this than butcher any fuel lines so the next person who has to do it has the problem. If you are too scared to do that maybe you'd better leave changing your filter to someone who isn't a big poof next time.

I nearly had the same problem a few days ago replacing my fuel filter. original steel one from factory. Couldn't move it and started rounding the edges of the bolts. Got a big set of vice grips and that worked a trick. But I still had to use a bit of force to to snap the lock free. Makesure you put a nice big open ender on the fuel filter side when trying to crack the nuts.
Yeah i also used a ryco alloy one, 17nm of torque required(finger tight, 1/4 turn) No leaks been 6 days...touch wood....... Cheers Luke. |

does anyone have a pic of a flare nut spanner? will give it another crack thursday. thanks
