i have an eb and i am trying to get parts and prices on parts for a new engine, however i am having trouble finding pistons. i am after flat tops, but i can only find semi flat tops, and they are to suit an ef/el, will these suit my car, and is it possible to get full flat tops at all?
also if i get flat tops will i have to different valves to stop them hitting?

from what i know the directional pistons were made to benifit the flow of the inlet and exhaust gases, therefore increasing power? sooo...use em they should still work right...same engin minus that and the inlet pretty much, shouldnt cause problems unless its compression related.

Flat top pistons have 'notches' in the top for valve clearance.
If you're after flat top pistons, try emailing info@altedperformance.com They sourced mine. --Striker.

Yeah but the indentations are there for valve clearance not for flow enhancement, thats what I dont quite understand???

what ndroo was thinking about is the pistons that have a dome or crown on them shaped to aid the combustion process

yup higher comp hypereutectic variants are your best option. forgies are overrated unless its a race motor and they are heavier so the higher rocipitating mass could reduce your spool up time and lower your safe redline if you only run a std crank and rods

"Forgies" are not heavier comparitively speaking, the forging process makes a denser pistons which can and is actually thinner than cast performance pistons in critical areas to offset any weight gain. Forged pistons cost more to manufacture compared to cast pistons, which is what hypereutectic pistons are. Virtually all cast pistons are now hypereutectic. Hypereutectics are a better piston choice for a street engine running NO boost or NOS. The expand less than forged pistons and are cheaper. |

Why not just get the ACL RACE kit. I think its only $750 for the full rebuild kit. People have used this kit with boost up to 500rwhp.
Why do you want flat tops? If you want a comp increase, combine a EA head with a 4.0 bottom end. |

what comes in the ACL race kit and will it run alright with a stage 2 crow cam and standard computer?, also i thought ea's had the same bottom end as eb's (or is that just the block)?

We fitted the acl kit to our XR6 ED...I must say it did increase compression if thats what you want...In this case forced induction is out of the question..I think the head has been machined before??...
