hey all...
well, 1st time the car hasn't started  just tried it then - it clicks over, tried to start, but won't. turn key again, but just clicks.
now... the fuel pump is dying - the wirring sound when the car starts has slowly gotten slower - so i realise its on the way out. but... the volt meter on the cluster is not really popping up anymore - when the key was turned over before, it'd jump up quite highish - today, stuck just above the redzone - on 10. so - i'm 99.99% assuming its the battery thats died - but, due to the fact i know the fuel pump is on its way out, i want to make sure i'm not wasting the $$$ on a battery if i don't need one! any thoughts would be appreciated - asap!

jump start it, but a battery should read at least 12 for a start.

If the fuel pump shat it, I think the relay would still trigger and the engine would still try and crank over.... obviously to no avail as the pump wouldnt be delivering fuel... Personally i'd go for a jump start....

yeah that was my thoughts too - so would i be best jumping it, or getting a new battery? wouldn't that indicate that the battery is about to die anyways? i'd rather not have it die when i'm out somewhere taking some young hottie for a drink

the problem with your voltage might be related to your fuel pump.
If its died and not turning over, this would mean your fuel pump is a dead short.. hence drawing alot of power with no back emf, this would fry a couple of things including the fuel pump relay. just disconnect the fuel pump relay, and then give it a shot, and see if the crank is stronger than before. Cheers

Yeah, chances are the battery is fu... err... not good. Im guessing the electrolyte levels are pretty low too.... Well, a jump is a good way to a) see if it is the battery and b) get your sorry a** down to the parts store for a replacement. That would suck... guaranteed conversion to a holden fan right there...

the fuel pump still sounds like its turning over though - which leads me to believe more so that its the battery

if its turning than it seems like the battery. But are you sure its the battery? did it lose charge? or did it not get charged? might be alternator?

the battery has been in the car for a while now - i have noticed its getting worse at clicking over in the mornings, so i guess it was just a matter of time really - i've had the car for 10 months and it was in well before that!

well... i've got a spare car to use - so best to just go up & get a battery? i'm not too comfortable with jumping my car, and neither is the lady here at work about me using hers...
bah - might as well just go get one

If your battery has been quite a while in the car, you won't be aware of what life it's had. It sounds like there may not be any charging or battery drain issues, but you would obviously realise to keep an eye on your voltmeter from time to time.

Stop the guessing game and just get a new battery and a new fuel pump. That way you are
a: garanteed sucess b: have peace of mind know that everything is in working order and is not on its way out... As I learnt when I fried my alternator, if something is on its way out and something else gives, then chances are in the next couple of days you will have more things to fix. My alternator when, causing battery to lose charge, causing the drive belt to work overtime, which caused the drive belt tensioner to bend, which restricted the water pump, which knocked out the thermostat... Just fix both now.....

new battery is in... bosch super heavy duty mofo - started first time beautifully
so fuel pump will be done soon too - actually started making enquiries this morning about one! so yes - she starts again, which i'm very happy about!

Might be worth looking aftermarket... prolly around the same price as stock unit and bit more headroom for hp.
