I recently had a flat battery, i recharged it and now when i go to start it, it stalls as soon as i release the key from the start position. WTF is going on? Car was fine until battery went flat

could be
1. loose or faulty electrical connections at distributor, coil or alternator. 2. insufficient fuel reaching the fuel injector(s) (check fuel pressure) 3. vacuum leak at gasket surfaces of throttle body. make sure that all mounting bolts/nuts are tightended securely and that all vacuum hoses connected to the throttle body and manifold are positioned properly and in good condition. these things could help |

does it fire at all? if you rev it up will it run? does it misfire?

it turns over fine, starts, and as soon as i release the key from the start position coughs and then stalls with the battery light coming on. i think its the coil, i pulled out a plug and earthed it and spark is piss weak

turn the key to the on position and make sure you have power to the coil.
the car thas two circuits to the coil 1. in the START position 1. in the ON position. the coil powers up when cranking but power drops of as soon as you release the key. it sounds a lot like the problem i had with a holden

If your car has a coil resistor this could be faulty. What happens is the coil is 8 volts and normally runs thru the resistor which drops 12V to 8V. However, when you turn the key to start, the resistor is bypassed and the coil gets the full 12V giving a better spark for starting. So maybe when the key is returned from start to ON, because the resistor is faulty, the coil gets no power.

thats old cars that do that, new cars don't have a ballast resistor.

this is the resistance i got from my coil:
Primary: 0.6 ohm Secondary: 6.75k ohm my gregory says: Primary: 0.41 - 0.45 ohm Secondary: 7.12 - 7.87k ohm what do you think. (I don't know much about coils yet )
