Hey guy, well, coming home from work tonight and I went to overtake a slow car and stuck the boot in. It jumped to first, went to redline and then to second, then it went on about 5 cylinders for about 20 seconds, then normal, but when you put a bit of load on it now, it seems like one cylinder is missing.

Could it be leads? Plugs are about 5k oldm and dizzy cap button and tfi module about 4 months old. Also, my head gasket is leaking out between 2 and 3, but is there a way to check just in case its actually leaking in to a cylinder.

Cheers.

well did ya try checking if there was a spark through the leads pull them off, one hand on the block, other on the end of the lead. if it hurts then tehy're working!
or just hold them a bit away (like 5cm) from the plug and see if it arcs - less painful!

shouldnt be.. the manifold gasket is only 2-3 months old having baught a new one to muck around with the dual throttlebody's.... I guess we will soon find out what is going on with the engine..(the car is at Crescent motorsport today) (SITE SPONSER) Courtesy of green machine i swithched to a spare set of spark plugs and spare set of leads... problem still surfaced after going for a drive... So can elimate those items off the "suss" list...

it could easily be the headgasket.
we have a test kit at work (called a TK tester). It goes over where the radiator cap should go, and the liquid in it changes colour where there are combustion gasses in the cooling system.

'Car started missing 5 cylinders WTF!!!'

If your missing 5 cylinders, I'd take it to the mechanic pretty quick.

I didn't think it was possible for these cars to even run on 5? Wouldn't they have to run on 4 or 2 ?

they run on 5 ok. when my head cracked I had to start on 5 to clear the water out of the cylinder and drive to the head specialist.

that was hapening to my ED, run ok then put the boot in and it would missfire for a bit.

i just gave it a service, changed plugs (probably leads i cant remember) and it ran fine after that

joe's checked my car over.. seems to be the NEW unichip o payed $750 for 2.5 months ago is the source of my problem.. seems to run erratic the chip occasionaly sending the fuel/air ratio's mental.. The car runs sooooo rich when cold and way too lean under acceleration when up to optimal temp.. looks like the car will be visiting spiro at Autotech to sort out the latest probs...

Fordfreak are you still running the dual throttle manifold?
Did it ever get sorted out properly? I know you drove down here a couple of weeks back.

nah... too many issues... it ran like an emo...

*revs in nuetral too high..
*unexplained stalling occasionally..
*bad driveline shunt 2000rpm and under when in gear decelerating..

So reverted back to the stock intake and regather my thoughts on what could be done differently to make it run better in the future.. -i still have in my possesion the dual throttlebodys.. too rare and a one off....

*will not idle at all... -stalls constantly.. -have to stab throttle lightly every 5 seconds to keep the engine running.. only starts to hold idle after 25 mins of driving and at 500rpm!.... Is driving me insane!!!

car is being booked in at granville autotech to have the problem sorted out and the issue fixed under warranty...
