Gday all I posted about 3 weeks ago about my car not starting by key, it starts only if i short the starter with a screw driver. I was told it most proberly be the BCM and today i replaced it with one i bought from the wreckers, it was tested and taken out of a 93 futura.
I took it home and installed it, relearned it, attached the starters red lead again and cross my fingers and turned the key and nothing...
with the bcm ruled out whate else could it be???
again any help is greatly appreciated

cheers

Does the car turn over...or does it just sit dead?

If car sits dead, have you checked fuses and relays? Smartlock?

Sorry I do remember you posting something a while back but I don't remember specifics.

it does crank does it?

have to tried hitting the dash just above the handbrake while cranking it over? As in its not the smartlock module? (which did you replace the red one? Or the Black/blue one?)

When you turn the key to on, do you hear the fuel pump whir? If it cranks get someone to crank it for you, do you hear the injectors pulsing? If it cranks, does it have spark (check it with a test plug or similar)...

you said it sits dead above and then said it cranks... which does it do?

Cheers,
Tim

if everything goes dim than I nearlly bet its a dirty connection somewhere...

Check leads on battery... put a multimeter on it and make sure its charged... check fusible links (these bolt to the piece of busbar on the positive battery terminal) if you undo the 3 nuts and take the leads off there will be three plugs on the ends of them... Unplug them, make sure they are not full of corrosion (they will be very tight) and then check the little wire sections with a multimeter as these little wire sections are you main fuses (hence the name fusible links)...

Its there is no dramas here as bear said it sounds like maybe a d**k earth... unbolt and clean the big one from the negative terminal to the body and from the body to the motor...

For things to go dim there is something wrong power wise somewhere (the red box you replaced it the smartlock module, if it cranks but doesn't start you'd expect this to be the problem, yours doesn't crank so the red box is not the problem, the black/blue box I mentioned is the body module, this will not be your problem either)...

If these are all ok swap out the starter relay... This lives in the relay box beside the battery (be careful when undoing the one screw that holds the cover on as if you touch the positive terminal at the same time you'll have sparks, best to undo battery holder and slide sideways a bit to get to these relays) it will be relay closest to the windscreen... remove and check terminals for corrosion and try swapping with another in there of the same colour and see if it fires (in order from front to back in there are horn relay (usually the odd one out as in ED's it seems to be always a yellow one), low beam relay (grey on most, blue on XR's), high beam relay (grey), starter relay (grey))...

Let me know how this goes...

Cheers...
