Yeah sorry about that but my parot is better security and he's in a cage.

each to their own... I'd sooner fix the module and have it work... now the good deed is done maybe wildeb and myself should edit out all our comments as XRfairmont67 said... These forums are searched in google and don't do the world or car thieves any good...

I am not looking to remove the security just moving it external to the BCM. It seems like the parts cannot be bought to repair the module so a fix is realy only a bandaid. I hate fixing things twice, and not being my car I only want to pull it apart once. I will be giving the owner the pros and cons and they can make up their own mind.
Just trying to do a lady a favour.
I will go back and edit post.

Hi all
My first post with group and I am needing some help with this dreded smartlock that is dumd!!!!!

I have a brick most days parked in my driveway but somethimes it turns into an EF Falcon. So I am at you your beck and call I need some info on this by pass idea, I had thought about making a circuirt and have a push start (lighter maybe?).

I have been able to manage this issue over the 4 years I have had this problem, by hitting the steering wheel. But I have just had the dash out to put in a heater core and now kicking the dash somethimes works.

Any help is appreciated

Cheers
hairy

P.S pm's welcomed

I didn't know smartlock on EF/EL had the same problems? I haven't seen any cases of this before...

On the EF/EL your is a combine smartlock and BEM module... If you remove the surround around the cluster then you'll see if under the left hand side of the cluster... Not sure how you remove it (think it goes into the footwell, not out into the cabin) never seen one being removed...

On the ED, when it doesn't start, you turn the key to start and hold it there, the smartlock jewel lights and stays on, does this happen to you? It could be your barrel or anything... Might not necessarily be the smartlock/BEM module...

Any other odd things it does that might help identify what the problem exactly is?

Cheers,
Tim

Hi timmytimtim

Have been trying to problem solve this issue and have tried an anther barrel with no success.

Yes the light is on when there is no responce from the key, the only way in the past has been to hit the steering wheel or left knee area of the dash.

I am no expert but what about making a wiring circuirt to the starter to by pass this issue. I only say this because we need the car going!!!!!! we would hear any security risk, someone reversing their trailer up to the car at the moment.

My wife has to drive through 30 k's of roo infected (and I mean it ) roads at sunrise and sunset and this issue is forcing her drive her dangerous KIA Rio and I am not happy.

Dose anyone have a unit they could part with or know the best place to get one please.

But adding the curicut could be adding another level of security any way, and it could be hidden.

Just need to know the wiring diagram.

Cheers

Hey hairy...

I'd honnestly replace the BEM/smartlock module mate... Depends what wrong inside of it... Like it directly (I speak in the case of an ED coz thats what I have, would apply to EF/EL most likely) disables the computer, it directly disables the start relay, plus taps into a host of other things like the doors, lights and other bits...

So who knows what else isn't working in the car... Yeah you could patch a start wire into the start relay... but if its disabled the computer its not gonna start and you might end up making more of a headache out of it...

I'll send you a PM to tell you to try something, something which you don't reveal in general viewing forums...

If this doesn't help it I'd recommend a new BEM/Smartlock module...

Just had a look at my EF Fairmont because im having the same problem.
The only 2 wires that look the same to me are black with orange stripe, beside each other in the middle of the plug.
Although this is on a 5.0,shouldnt be any different should it?.

Dylan

I'll send you the same PM we don't discuss this is general viewing forums...

Cheers,
Tim

i get that people know a "McGyver" way of making this work again but, is it because the module itself is too expensive to replace???
This thread helped me start my car again btw... by hitting the dash... (i lolled)
Does anyone know how much the module is?

Ebay is your friend...

Around 40 bucks... But you don't know whether your buying a dodgy one or not... I bought a dodgy one... Hence I unsoldered the relay and turn it 180 degrees and soldered it back in again... Never had a problem since...

Cheers,
Tim
