howdy
i am writing to you to ask my old ED Ford we just sold i said it had trouble starting it turned out the coil was gone then we were told the sooner we get rid of it the better because the gas converter was gone and the engine was about to go any time because it was missing not idling not reving like it use to can you think of the engine being ready to blow up as the reason why it idles rough or is the reason simpler. i look foward to your reply Thanks |

Sounds a bit sus! But it could be as simple as new plugs and leads. Does it burn lots of oil and make any loud clunking noises from the engine? If not the engine should be ok. If the coil had already gone i would do leads and plugs for sure, a good service wouldnt go astray including air filter.

Sorry mate but you're a little hard to understand.
From what i can gather, you have sold the car? If so, why are you worried about it lol? |

The engines not going to idle or rev up if there's a problem in the ignition system or in the fueling to the engine. And engines don't just one day be normal and next day 'blow up'.

Wrong, wrong and wrong! Car can still idle and rev with a fuel problem, and also with an electrical problem, it all depends on the problem and how severe it is. And if you think an engine can't be fine oneday and blow up the next then think again. |

So you actually sold it knowing it was stuffed... did you tell the sucker who bought it? (or was it a car yard?)

You are correct, i should not have implied that literally every fuel or ignition problem would cause the car not to rev up or idle properly.
And I do agree that you can wake up in the morning and somethings wrong. But at least I've found there generally are signs prior to something big going wrong. And still engine don't just 'blow up', the fail, things break, snap, get knocked out of place, wear to much, jam, piston goes through the block, whatever, but the engine doesn't just litterally blow up - like dynamite kabooom style! |
