Hi Guys,
My car drove perfectly when I pulled up last night but this morning it just won't start.. has good battery, seems to have fuel... (trip computer says I could do another 150km) Engine seems like it wants to start, but then doesn't... under normal circumstances, I'd say check the fuel pump, but this one is less than a year old and I think I can smell fuel. (could be my imagination though.) The pump is a bosch though so it's very quiet.. Its raining here so it's hard to get a look.... If my smartlock bypass stopped working cos it got wet.. would the engine seem like it wanted to start? or would it do nothing and just spin? starting to think it might be worth putting the EA ECU back in and see if it fires up, but I'm hoping it isn't the smartlock. any suggestions? rgds Frank |

It won't turn over if its smartlock, and if it wasn't turning over, then you could leave it with ignition in the 'on' position for 31 minutes for the smartlock to reset itself - thats a standard feature in any immobilising system.
I had a bloke buy a fuel pump off me with a problem like that. Fixed the problem. Could be spark?

fuel filter could be shagged stopping any fuel getting there.
injectors could also be playing up. does it crank over but not catch or just not do anything at all?

check your fuel filter and your fuel pressure regulator.

thanks guys..
I pulled some plugs and they were wet and didn't smell right.. fuel there though... It looked flooded to me, but that has never happened before.. wonder if the EL ECU on the log manifold would contribute to that? then again it's been there for ages and never done it before. I cleaned 3 plugs and the car started.. rough and then smoothing out. It really does look like it was flooded.. but how does that happen on a MPFI engine? |

Strange- if it happens again, you can try cranking with full throttle - this stops the injectors from pulsing and gives the car a chance to start under 'flooded' condition.s

yeah waggin is right about the flood clear, does the car have a cam? if its running rich it can run then when you turn it off it wont start because the plugs are fouled. happened to me before but i knew it because i had no map sensor

The full throttle thing is interesting.. I didn't know that.. I'll be changing new plugs in this weekend, I think the Denso's that are in there are actually too hot a plug as well. (they were new in the ED motor when I bought it) Just went out and started it again.. it didn't even turn a full revolution before it fired up... very odd. |
