Hey there,
Check the voltage at the TPS on top of the throttle body with ign on but not running. One wire will have around 4.95v and the other two wires to check are there grey wires which are the reference wires the ecu reads. Make sure you probe each wire for earth and power ref as any other earth on the car can give a false reading. If you are over 1v then the throttle is open to far or the tps is positioned wrong. The ecu needs under 1v to see its in idle mode. ford-v8-f2/adjusting-base-idle-and-setting-t-p-s-voltage-t56990.html Dont fiddle with the base idle screw as you need to be able to put the car into base idle mode which can only be done with a diagnostic tool. Check everything else first before playing with the screw, and if necessary you must, the throttle butterfly needs to be as close to shut as possible without binding in the bore. The car needs to be at operating temp, turn off car, disconnect ISC and then restart the car and adjust base idle until the car just runs and then dies very soon. ign off, plug in ISC after its been cleaned and checked (next paragraph) Clean out the idle control motor with carby clean, blow out with compressed air and lube up the internal shaft with a little WD-40. Also check the resistance between the idle motor pins with a multimeter which should read around 9.4 ohms +/- 10% After that has all been done the car should fire and run a bit rough until the ECU relearns the idle. Run the car for 30 mins at various throttle position on the road to allow the ECU do some more learning. If all that fails, start checking for vacuum leaks and plugs not connected properly or dirty contacts. Spray around possible places for vac leaks with brake clean/wd-40 to see if the revs change, and if so that may be the overall problem. An ECU reset may also help after the above has been done to clear old codes. Hope you got somewhere to look now. Cheers Joel

ok thanks heaps for that ill have to wait till the weekend as i dont have a voltage meter and what is a isc thanks again and will let ya know how i go

OK. Grab yourself a multimeter. Go to volts (V).
Probe the leads in the tps plug (plug is still connected to the tps) . Red lead in the middle of the plug. Black lead in the bottom of the plug. Turn the ignition on.(don't start engine) Closed throttle should read 0.7-0.8 volts Fully open throttle should read 4.4-4.6 volts When increasing the throttle slowly the voltage increases. If you want to adjust the TPS you will need to remove it and slot the holes a little. Basiclly TPS as factory fitted, are not adjustable. |

Hi there i just tested the tps and the volts are good i started the car and i reved hi then dropped to a alright idle but sometimes jumps up to 1500 then back down and the oil pressure its going crazy i also put it into reverse and nothing happend till the reves went down the stopped again same with drive

Did you remove the ISC and give it a good clean out with brake clean or carby cleaner?
Hunting idle is usually a sticking ISC motor or a vacuum leak. Also make sure the throttle body butterfly closes fully and there is no build up of gunk where the butterfly seals inside the throttle body. Use some of the above mentioned cleaners to clean it out and wipe off with a clean rag. Check all relative plugs for bad/loose connections. Start simple and work from there. Hope you get some resolution from these possible fixes. Cheers Joel

yep gave that a good clean so will have to look for a leak and also can i use any auto transmission oil or is there a serten oil to use
