I paid $180 for a 2½" magnaflow (hiflow) installed from tru-fit in moorabbin,
Im guessing with the price would be significantly higher now as the demand for platinum is far greater. even dead second hand ones fetch around $120 at scrap metal merchants.

Where do you go to scrap your cat converters? I know it's different but in Geelong when I went to try and get money for 2 battery's the bloke just turned around and said 40c....

I'm not in the game, nor the market but I know a lot of car breakers that get good money for them. $90 is the average price to purchase (nowadays) a second hand cat, even this is undercutting, but places need customers not just the guys that come around collecting injectors and cats. There's a number of reports for cats to be stolen from cars in aust, fair bit of work for a small reward. And to think, 18 months ago, a cat would sell for $30 at a do-it-yourself wreckers!

i think i got my cat for like $150 or something....its just a 2.5in magnaflow
Unless the pacies have been modified they will be a 2.5in outlet...if your car isn't worked and you don't plan on running anything more than a mild cam I would run a 2.25 good quality cat (one that actually flows a high amount, not some some pos claiming to be "high flow"). Keeps exhaust velocity up and gas hotter whilst flowing through the cat (which is pretty restrictive). edit, hotter gas is lighter and easier for the engine to push. Again this is if you are keeping stock or a mild cam (anything bigger and I'm assuming you will want to rev it and 2.25 will be a restriction).
