if it runs like a bucket of sh!t, you'll find a blockage

Could be blocked cat/zorst.

Got a vac gauge?

Can diagnose a blocked exhaust... if vacuum in manifold starts to drop as the engine is running, it can be indicative that the exhaust is blocked and therefore the engine (just an air pump at the end of the day) is unable to effectively draw air into the cylinders....

Checked timing?
Cat blocked?
Either way, you're going to need a new cat before you can fix the problem.
They don't like getting that hot, I'd put money on it being f**k.
Thats either the cause or the symptom...

i have seen this befor years ago when i was doing a Tafe course, we put a Tafe car on the dyno, and after 5mins of running time it would do as exactly as you have described, apparently it was dumping unburnt fuel into the exhaust, after a short running the exhaust would heat up and then burn this fuel in the manifold/pipe/cat/exhaust causing it to glow red.

they sed it was down to a combo of bad leads/plugs, and very bad engine timing

just somthing to consider

ive had my exhaust glowing a fair few times, after a little while @ WOT on the dyno they go bright orenge/red

get your exhaust checked out, plugs/leads, timing, if its not them you have gremlins.

my guess is a vacume leak between the map sensor and the manifold, and check your spark while your goin

happend to me when i put my cam in. knocked the map sensor hose off the back of the manifold ended up melting the carpet in the boot from how lean it was running, that plus it was funnin on 4 cylinders

an it might look cool with your exhaust glowing but dont push it an run it for long. its melts s**t, ie: carpet

good luck mate an welcome to fordmods
