I need a new battery for my EL Fairmont and my old man said century were good. I woz also thinking of getting an optima ret top battery, but being round the $300 mark i'm not sure. Question is makes good and if i get a red top for my EL would it fit in a BA. Coz i'm planin to buy one in the future. I need a good one coz my sound system drains alot of power.

Century are good, but AC Delco are far better, i used it for about 12 months and took it out when i sold the car, i had one laying around here for 2 1/2 years, charged it up and stuck it in a VT 5.0 without any probs, not many batteries would do that.
They're around $150 retail, but if my battery goes i'll be buying one of them. Optima are better again, all comes down to how much you want to spend. |

I've had a few batteries in my time, Century, Exide, Power Crank, Orbital etc.
I've had so many batteries, I couldnt tell you what my current one is, but I think the biggest thing I found is to get the biggest size you can. All these people that buy tiny bare-minimum units. Pah! My current battery is a 15 plate 580CCA and I've had it nearly 4 years now, never missed a beat. It powers my modest stereo (HU + 5CH Amp) easily. |

His on the ball, don't bother with 12 plate battery if you have a high powered sound system. besides, you gonna drain the battery anyway if your parked most of the time with stereo loud & only do short trips, thats not going to recharge your battery fully.

Just upgraded to an Optima Yellow Top (750CCA rated) ... and hell it made a difference in starting ... and also when running the sound system as well.
For people running LPG and starting on LPG ... the Yellow Top is awesome ... cold cranking is fast and easy. Also had issues with the LPG system with cold start ... was trying and trying to start it one morning with NRMA ... was cranking it over many times over an hour period (no jump starting either) ... finally got it going after disabling coldstart solenoid and get rid of flooding issue) ... battery cranked out with ease ... there was no issues with drain at all. I was very impressed with it ... it cost me a lot more than a normal battery ... but i reckon it's worth it.
