Well i just changed the coolant and flushed the system, and also replaced thermostat and washer..
I always thought my cluster temp gauge was broken, until recently i figured out it was just the thermostat that was f**k..I have replaced these today and going on a short drive, within 15 mins, i noticed it going up past R on 'normal'..the highest ive ever seen it get is just past N on hot days..and tonight was a mild night.. after it goes a touch past R it drops again..but f**k the hoses and housing were hot to touch when i got home! is there a problem, should i just put the old thermostat back in since it runs colder? |

sounds liek there may be some air in the system
pop the overflow bottle cap off and run the car up to operating temp and make sure your heater is switched to "ON" maybe replace the cap as well? bets coolant i have found redline water wetter 1 bottle for the whole car and u just use distelled water been over 2 years since i changed to it and it still wont get hot on a 35+ day with aircon on

Did you put the new thermostat in boiling water before you fitted it to the car.
Some times they are stuffed when you buy them. Also find out what temp the thermo opens and use a thermo to check the cooland temp to see if it is opening at the correct temp or a higher one. |

Did you drill a small hole in the t'stat???? This helps bleed air from the system and helps stop Heat Shock at the Radiator too. The size of the hole to drill is 1/8".

Did you purchase a Genuine Ford Thermostat or a Trident One ?

Man pull it out and stick it in hot water.
EG. A saucepan and cover it with water and start the heat and see if it opens before the water boils. If its closed and the water is boiling get a new one. If it opens before it boils invstigate your radiator for blocked cores and your water pump. |

the thermo may have been fully open most of the time with the radiator cores blocked.
now the radiator is still blocked with a new thermo, it could be a bit much for the system. thats my guess anyway.

fiftyone, You had any issues with the power steering pump in your car with extractors and the exhaust manifold mount for the power steering pump missing ?

Should i? had to take the steering knuckle off to get them down there, but other than that no

never seen one without Here is a pic of a t'stat that I fitted today. It was a genuine Ford one, no hole or bobble valve. So I drilled a 1/8" hole in it and fitted it. Check out how filthy the system was by the old t'stat.
