Hi everyone, I am changing the cam and vernier gear on my 98EL falcon, it has the hybrid motor so I am putting in an AU cam. I have heard the method is slightly different for changing cams and sprocket gear?
Any help or a quick run through would be great, or even a link to a detailed site? Cheers

The doing bit is exactly the same as any other e-series... Its the timing thats a little different.
The AU cam gear has 2 timing marks on it. One is a small dot, like someone has hole punched a mark into the gear, the other is a cast in line about 2cm long. And from memory they are about 180deg apart, so it does confuse people. The drive pin for the cam itself should also be sitting inline with this dot as well, for a double check. Its the dot that you are looking for. So if you line up the balancer at TDC as per normal, make sure that dot is in the right place just above the right side of the head, then pull apart and swap the stuff as you normally would. Shimming the rocker arms is exactly the same, so just measure to meet the tolerances (.7 to 1.1mm from memory) and put it all back together. |
