Ok, sorry guys for clogging up the forums with noob posts but im new to this "changing stuff under the bonnet yourself" fad :P

1. How does one remove the sparkplug with the old lead attached from the engine? Is it just pull, twist and pull, buy a special tool or what? Putting the sparkplug back in will just be the reverse of this process i assume?

2. How does one separate the sparkplug from the old leads, bearing in mind that the sparkplugs have done under 10 000ks so will be reused?

3. Again, how does one remove the old lead from the coilpack? I hear changing leads on an EF is a b**ch, plus i have extra LPG stuff in the way. Anything in particular i should remove first to make the job easier (i do have long, girlish arms so that's a plus!)?

4. I hear the motorcraft leads have some sort of heat shielding that most leads dont come with - is it reusable? Is is necessary?

5. Umm that's about it! I'll follow the instructions on the box for attaching the new leads, they're Top Gun (i know i know, i did a search but they should do the job, and they were cheap). Thanks all for your help!

any reason you want to take the spark plug out? you can simply pull the old lead off the end of the plug and the plug remains in the head, it is screwed in, need a spart plug socket to remove it.

as above, just grab the boot (bit that goes over the plug and pull hard, there will be a vacumme in it, so itll be tight.

remove you air box, with long girly arms you should be abl to reach, i had fat stubby arms and i can reach.

just remove the leads one at a time, remove #6 from the spark plug and feed the lead down through the inlet manifold then put ya arm under there and feel for it and remove that lead, then replace that one with a new one before removing anymore. itll make sure they are the right order.

havnt heard of it? dont bother with it even if it does exist its not needed.

enjoy, itll be an experience. just make sure the lead is pushed firmly only the coilpack, dont want any missing. with the boot ends i had trouble with the top guns, just screeze them real tight and wriggle them onto the plug.

yep i think that pretty much sums it all up.

so just to recap for you - you dont have to take the spark plug out if you dont want to. and you certainly wont be able to get it out by twisting the boot on the end of the lead/plug.

Thanks heaps Gaz, that's cleared it up for me! I'm not nearly as scared to give it a go now lol! The only reason i wanted to take the plugs out was to just inspect them i guess and to check gap, i've got a backfire you see, but they are fairly new and were installed by fraud so should have the correct gap i hope!

if its for eaza of mind mate do it while u have lead off... just get a spark plug socket and give it a go.. put it on, unscrew it and give the gap abit of a rub with sandpaper, then put it back in (be careful not to cross thread it)

Thanks heaps for your help guys, did the leads yesterday and while being possibly the most frustrating experience of my recent life i did manage to get it done. My hands are cut to shreds though lol! Couldn't ford have found a more accesible spot for the coilpack? :D

I might try and source some of those superduper wizzbang autolite sparkplugs i've heard so much about! Til then, the standard ones will do!
