Ok. so theres the first signs of the head gasket going. little amount of coolant down the exhaust side at number 1.
Now, from what i can see a got a few little sump gasket or timing cover leaks. I figured if im doing the head gasket it is not going to be that much more effort to pull the engine and just do all the gaskets and welch plugs, coolant hoses etc. Sound like a good idea? (who knows, if i find a manual box soon enough, could be a good excuse to put it in!) Just want some people to have a look at the list of parts i have built up and to add to it if you think of anything ive missed. Parts List: **Cooling** Water Pump / Pulley + gasket + o rings - Worth doing? Upper Radiator Hose Lower Radiator Hose Surge Tank Supply Hose Heater Hoses (2) Firewall hoses (2) **Gaskets** Intake Manifold Exhaust Manifold Thermostat housing Sump Timing Cover Crank pulley seal Timing cover/head gasket Headgasket Rocker cover **Other** Headbolts Rearmain seal Welch Plugs Cheers.

there is an "o" ring in the timing chain adjuster
mine was hard & all squashed might as well do that also $2.50 from ford also, i note you've got sump gasket in the list are you lifting engine out? or otherwise you've got to remove the k frame that's a fair amount of work there - good luck

Sorry to go against the grain, but I wonder if you're making a lot of unnecessary work for yourself.
I wouldn't be pulling the engine unless it's got a large amount of kms, and you intend to reco it, or put in a low km engine - to which I'd change welch plugs, seals etc, before putting it in. Have you tried nipping up the sump bolts, degreasing the area, and seeing if your leaks go away ?? If your leaks are not major, maybe you're better off living with them for the time being. Have you confirmed where all these leaks are coming from ?? You can do most of what you've described, while you have the head off - welch plugs, pull exhaust and inlet manifolds out. Rear main and rear welch plug can be done with your manual conversion. I agree that's a good idea to replace all coolant hoses (particularly the under manifold hoses which are probably 10+ years old), very easy if the inlet manifold is out. All these things you aren't making needless extra work, as they are now very easy to do. I'm all for preventative maintenance, but if your engine isn't giving you any major problems at the moment other than what you've described, maybe you're doing too much. Hope I haven't contradicted myself here . . .

I had exactly all this done last year as I had a cracked head, welsh plug leaks and rear main seal leaking. If you suspect rear main then rip out the engine and do all the basics. I had the Head recoed, water pump, idler pulleys, welshies, rear main, sump, injector clean, all done ! cost me $2k but the car has run great ever since and hasn't used a ml of coolant! I would have done it myself but I didn't have a garage to work in or at the time no second car so we were in a hurry as It was my wife's daily work hack.

have you considered going to an AU?
seeing as you're removing engine anyway here is a place selling ones pre-modified for EF-EL http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Modified-AU-4-0- ... dZViewItem
