What mods does your car have?
Unless you have changed cams, or made significant mods to the air intake or fuel system, you’ll probably find that you wont gain much on an otherwise stock car. The point of the chip is to compensate for the change in air flow and vacuum, by readjusting the correct amount of fuel and timing for a given throttle position and load. The other purpose of the chip is to remove factory restrictions (such as limp home mode, smartlock bypass, remove speed limiter, etc), As for the types of chips, the most popular option seems to be the J3 chips which plug into your cars standard ECU. They can be supplied with a pre-programmed tune which is an estimated tune based on a supplied list of specs and mods of the car, or can be custom tuned on a dyno. These are done by TI Performance, CAPA and Chiptorque, the best of which probably depends on your location and preferred tuner. Unichips, I couldn’t tell you but I get the impression they aren’t worth it, and all those $30 ebay mod chips are rubbish. Im currently using a Chiptorque chip with a pre-prgrammed tune but have purchased a TI Performance chip which im having dyno tuned this weekend.

best to send Jason (galapogos) a pm... He does the TI performance chips but wont promise you power figures... But will talk you through what he can make better...
I have an ED I'm going to put a wade 1636 into when I get the new rocker cover painted... I have an EL EEC-IV to go in... My custom tune into my J3 has included: *Convert EEC-IV to log manifold maps *Convert Auto EEC to manual EEC *Adjust fuel map and base idle to accommodate wade 1636 (which isn't much change as its a a mild cam) other benefits I gain is the addition to run thermos using the factory pin outs of the EEC-IV... Well spent money I believe and Jason is great... Very switched on, you can't go wrong... Hope that helps...

Yeah with those mods you will probably make a small power gain from a chip, but the most benefit will come from it being nicer to drive as the fuel maps and timing can be adjusted so there wont be any surging, flat spots and it should idle nicely.
Seeing as you live in SE melb suburbs, id suggest getting a TI Performance chip and having it tuned at CVE. Should be about $200-300 for the chip and pre-programmed tune, or add another $200-300 for dyno tuning.
