hey guys, i'm currently modifying and ef airbox intake, the bellmouth part, and while i had my filter out i was going to clean it, how is the best way to clean it?

i know with motorbike fiters it's warm soapy water, and then re oil them but i've got a k&n paper pannel filter, so i don't think that would work with it

with paper ones you usually just blast them with some compressed air until you're satisfied. Or buy a New one lol

K&N do not make a paper filter for your coon. Crack open the money box, spend $11 and buy a new ryco. Get your old one and throw it in the wash next time your mum has the machine one, just for a laugh

Probably because the old owner ran a K&N Filter then put in a s**t ryco one when you bought it.

that looks like a K&N air filter to me...

how about you take the filter out and have a look for a K&N stamp or something. Pretty sure there is one.

Anyways, to clean that off without destroying it, you should buy a K&N cleaning kit. Comes with the cleaning spray (which hasn't lasted me long at all...maybe 3 complete washes) and re-oiling spray can.

Spray the cleaning stuff on and let it soak in for a few minutes, then rinse it off...the filter should be white...well close to it. Then you have to let it dry natrually...or you can use a hair dryer with a cool setting...no heating preferably. Once dry, which can take some time, you re-oil it with the spray can stuff.

Take it out first though to make sure it is a K&N air filter. From memory it looks like the one I have (which I haven't looked at for a while...which means it might need a clean before AFD), but don't quote me.

Once you know for sure it's a K&N, then get the kit...not sure what they are priced at, but pretty sure more expensive than a brand new paper filter. Should be able to get it from any auto store, they are popular enough.

Supercheap has cleaners for dirt cheap, think under $20. My experience if the k&n is still ok just clean it ( just read the instructions to make sure its an idiot proof job) and it will piss over any ryco filter. Better economy and power. Depending on your cash situation, either drop down to the wreckers and grab a new air box or go the whole hog and also grab a wide mouth aswell. Ebay also have air boxes cheap and you get it delivered.
Sounds like your not the best in the mechanical side of life, but hey asking questions is how you find out. To have looked up fordmods your obviously interested in cars. Do some research and get your hands dirty with guys who know there s**t and you'll be fine. Check out the local meets on here for your area and get to know the beast ( or potential) you are driving by talking cars with guys that also know there s**t. Unless your a total d***head, the boys on here will give you the time of day at meets. Just dont do a burn out or act like a d**k who will attract the coppers or piss off the neighbourhood. There is a time and place for that s**t and meets arent it.
