I had some problems when I washed my BA XT engine bay. A couple of times the engine would miss fire. This time it continued for 300km (driving from NT to VIC) before clearing up. 2 weeks later the engine started to play up again without no washing and ford found that I had two faulty coils & spark plugs due to water in spark plug wells. The spark plug & coils are under the black cover on top of the engine. So be careful washing in this area.

Sounds like you didn't give the engine bay enough time to dry before running it aswell. I leave my bonnet open for about 5 hours in the sun. everything is dry by then |

after you wash it, get a airhose and put it around the plugs and blast the water out .. or dry the whole bay
start ur car up straight after u wash it and do that and im sure ull have no problems, otherwise it'll miss for a bit.. |

I clean mine with degreaser and then use the high pressure cleaner at the car wash. Then i get out my trusty blower/vac and blow all the water off the engine & i'm away! Might look like a bit of a d**k but i'm not sitting there like others do trying to start their cars till the battery goes flat!!

I hosed down the engine bay in my AU3 and must have got some water into the idler pulley bearing because it made a lot of noise from that time on. Eventually had to get it replaced.
It might be wise putting a plastic bag over the idler and belt tensioner pulleys.
