Hi, i know this may not be the smartest question ever ask but...
Is it safe to hose down the engine the bay to clean it. I mean will it effect any of the electronics , or are they pretty well protected. If it makes a difference its a 98 fairlane concorde. Have a good one

1 thing you should do is have the car running while washing it

i have high pressure washed mine several times, never hurt it yet,i have done it both when running and when turned off and so far has made no difference, always still starts afterwards, just let it dry for a while first.

go out and get your self a $2 can of degreaser and hose it down with just the hose.
you can use high presure washers just with common sense, not on your dizzy or straight at alternator etc. if car is off then give it time to dry before starting. if you want to be extra carefull put some plastic bags on the electronics before washing.

i mostly want to do the engine bay itself as the road grime on the paint makes it look very gross, and maybe hit the intake manifold./ rocker cover to freshen it up a bit so i think ill be doing that thanks for the help

Generally speaking it is safe to hose down your engine, cold not running or hot engine running. Although I washed the EA's engine 2-3 times a year and never had any trouble, the first time I washed the EL the coil died. As it turned out the coil had a small crack in it and water got in and fried it. Apparently it is fairly common and it is recommended to cover the coil and Alternator with plastic bags before washing the engine bay. Of course doing this the engine will have to be cold and not running. and the coil is in a prick of a spot to get to, so I don't bother covering either.

i just finished washing down the missus's laser engine bay, filthy as anything!!!
i always just buy the $2 degreaser spray a s**t load on there, make sure u get all the little tight spots, wait about 5-8 mins then wash off with water from the hose.. i found that washing it with a high pressure source seems to play havok, it did on my old EB anyway. so i tr and stay away from that. You shouldnt need to clean it with a high pressure washer, just use degreaser, water and even a little elbow grease if you have stubborn marks. afterb that, normally armour all the plastics and hoses, make it look nice and neat. But that is just me anyways.... im sure people have plenty of different ways of doing it..

I agree whenever mine needs a bit of a clean, just a can of export degreaser and the garden hose, works a treat

Hi pressure cleaning is okay and degreaser, just a tip, dry the spark plug recess of water as this leads to shorting of the spark plug leads to ground either stuffing up your spark plug lead(s) or coil, and you should dry your dizzy cap or spray some CRC to displace the moisture on the dizzy cap.
