As topic states, i need to remove the gasket material from the block...What are some ways to do this...Currently i am just using a scraper and a metal wire brush..Are there any chemicals that i can try to make it easier...Thanks in advance for your response

try not to dig the blade in and keep going.
If you have some emery tape or wet and dry sandpaper put it on a file and give it a rub to finish off. Then cleanup with thinners |

i havnt tried it but i know there are sprays that are made for the removal of gaskets i think crc makes it

Thanks, yeah i was thinking that there could be sprays that could take the old gasket material off, becuase mechanics would not sit there and scrap all the old gasket material off, it would take way to long....I will just ring an auto store to find the stuff.

yea if you go in to repce/autobarn/super cheap or any industrial supplys shops and ask for a crc gasket stripper, the crc part number i think is 5021 they should have it thier in stock and under $10
|

Is the CRC stuff only for getting the gasket off the block?
Is it ok on the aluminium of the head?

may as well keep scraping, it only took me 30 mins to an hour to do.

The gasket stripper works a treat. I recommend it to anybody removing old head gaskets,

the gasket stripper would be fine on most heads it should say it on the back of the can

yeh weve got that stuff at work. it's called Gasket Stripper. im pretty sure its by CRC but dont quote me. go down to supercheap or repco etc and ask them

scraped mine off then used emery paper on a block. after that used compressed air to remove any deposits then thinners for any excess oil.

lol apprentice mechanics around the world get stuck with this all the time no matter what you put on it its just a s**t job lol have you got a little brother that wants to earn some cash get him to do it

use the spray and a small scrap but dont put to much pressure on it just a slight graze across the block as you don't want to dig in and jsut make sure to clean all the gunk away
|
