I have my AU engine fully striped now, and the block is bare, crank removed ect..
I was just wondering what is the best way to go about cleaning everything? I was told to hit it with the degreaser, then high pressure, then WD everything.. is this the way to go? Also what is the best way of getting the carbon of the pistons? thanks |

degreaser then high presure hose, use an air hose to dry it. i did my block like that, it was still open for about two weeks and it never rusted. i used a wire wheel on a bench grinder on the pistons it took 280,000 kms of carbon off in about 30seconds! just be carefull not to slip and get the side of the pistons and dont push to hard and it will fine.

Get some CRC gasket stripper to help with the carbon cleaning - it dissolves the carbon.

Magic in a can. Also does a bloody good job any gaskets that have been baked on.

Spray can degreaser first then I use Motoguard Heavy duty degreaser ( water based) after that. Works faster if not watered down. It will take skin off, but it also takes off carbon and engine sludge.
Heres and example photo of before and after.

I'd say hydrofluoric acid, but that might burn the pistons at the same time .
I used Kerosene and degreaser to clean my engine parts. Make sure you have clean rags to ensure cleanliness. phong =P~
