hey guys when im cruisin and the lights turn red i come to a stop using my gears to slow down as i go from 2nd to 1st i notice a big clunk sound in the engine even as i am just rolling slightly into traffic lights. sum advice here plzzz

My EL used to do that too. I found that if you went into first at 40km/h it was fine, it didn't sound happy otherwise.

i know back when i had my 2004 Carolla she wouldn't go into 1st until you were at a complete stop...

my fairmont does that aswell, so i dont do it!
ive heard it can wear out your gearbox really quickly if you do it to much.

Using an auto for slowing down does not hurt it. In fact manually selecting 1st enguages extra clutches for exactly that reason.
And unlike the unhelpful people above, i think its worth finding out why instead of just not doing it anymore. The clunking means something isnt working right and you might want to check it out before it gets worse.

as "fnp" said drop it in 1st between 30-40 and it will be fine
