visited crescent motorsport today...

*too much compression... 10:3
*the head was shaved at a very slight angle.. (back four cylinders had more compression then the front two  )
*possibly a bad batch of fuel..
*unichip tune had the engine on a "knifes edge"..
*detonation damaged the head gasket..

so getting a STAGE 3 head and a STAGE 3 cam!!!! CMS of course.. (site sponsor)..

will be a more torquey engine with this head.. and no detenation... will have less compression...
all my motors run 10.5\1 comp,i6-v6 and soon 302w,when you machine the heads you have to cc the cambers to equal them all,and a bit of grinding and cleaning. 30 years ago we ran 12\1 comp and didnt blow head gaskets, reving 7000 and 8500 on gear changes--4th gear 7700rpm, do ford i6s have a problem?

it wasnt the head gaskets fault... the failure was a combination of.....

*head was shaved at a slight angle.. (oblivious to the naked eye) -causing an imbalance of compression amonst the 6 cylinders..

*unichip had the engine tuned for max power.. (o a knife edge)

*And i might have picked up some "not-so clean" fuel...

Damn ... I just found this now after Joe told me the other day when I rocked up at the workshop. I noticed your car in there ... had a look under the bonnet .. and saw it with the head off.

Was wondering what work was getting done ... and he told me what happened.

So who did the tuning that got it to a point that it went bang??? Or is that a No-No question????

Will be interesting to see the results when it is all back together ... lets see if it can make more torque to match Jase's Fairmont

spiro at AUtotech tunes it... bu i dont blame him for the failure... as he had tuned it several times on the dyno with the unichip installed and never had a problem... i more blame the shonky head shave job that had the head sitting on the block a few thou difference at the front of the head to the rear of the head causing the failure...

Well it looks like Ill be joining your club soon Matt.the overflow bottle spat a heap of water out. Il;l just drive it until it needs to be towed home. Just as well I kept the spare head.

Btw our heads like to warp because the front cylinders run cooler ..closer to the water pump.
