yesterday... on the leuikemia cruise my car developed a bad misfire... the typical s**t "Thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud" exhaust not and a lack of power and a stong willingness to ping at anything more than half throttle...

i had a spare TPS and map sensor of which thismorning i hae replaced one by one and tested with the same result.. -still the bad misfire....

AND NOW the engine every time i start her wants to go straight to redline! Whats going on??

NRMA are on the way out atm to check her out and then most likely off the the service station for work...

The ignition leads are only 2 months old.. spark plugs should be fine.. and can discount the MAP sensor and TPS swithch... any other idea's??

COIL PACK s**t itself??
CRANK ANGLE sensor perhaps s**t itself??

or has perhaps the same thing happened to my car as did HYENAS car (with the same engine) a dropped valve??

sounds like a valve or valve spring related issue, possibly on the intake side though as its getting a s**t load of air and reving.

No doubt I will be proven wrong with this assesment.. but my suggestion is to lift the rocker cover at least and see what you can see,

Maybe you can borrow a compression tester to put on - even doing the tests with the engine cold should still show any bad cylinder sealing issues - which you can investigate further.

If that all seems fine, run an ECU diagnostic and see if anything shows up.

nrma dude cleared the engine of any elictrical ignition probs.. suggested either a dropped valve or a blocked injector... of which i am now at work and the car is having a compresion check and an injector test done shortly...

find this very frustrating considering ive whipped the car down the quater sooo many times and been floged on the dyno countless times and to have this problen occur on a "CHARRITY CRUISE" when just casualy sunday driving.....

i recall Hyena had a dropped valve in his stage 4 "it's engine" too before he sold it.. however he had only done 20.000km compare to 60.000km for me so far....

do you know what valve springs were used? I can't remember names, but I think I remember 2 or 3 others with IT'S motors dropping valves.. not saying anything negative about mark.. plenty of engines drop valves..

Problem is, What has it done to the internals? seen valves bang the crap out of pistons, heads, scratch blocks to bits..

Lets hope its something simple and not a prick to fix.

Can always just pop the rocker cover off to check for any valvetrain issues.

B.L.O.W.N HEAD GASKET...

so no real engine damage... although the engine has to be pulled apart regardless... low compression around cylinder no. 1/2...

The engine is only 60.000km old so she's not at all old by any means... although has had a harsh life from 17,000km onwards with many times down the quater and countless times on the dyno...

Yeah.. will be requesting an AU metal head gasket... wouldnt mind using the opertunity while having the engin apart to make her a lil more turbo friendly...

Was this diagnosis just based on a compression test ???
Did they do a coolant test for gases to confirm it ??

Well if it was misdiagnosed and it turns out to be a broken spring - maybe the spring can be replaced in situ ??

i limpped the car 30km to crescent motorsport (site sponsor).. he pulled the radiator cap off to test for exhaust gasses and overflowing of the header tank of which both did not happen.. (leading him to presume that either a spring has broken or the valve has been bent... -NOT GOOD! could also be the cance that mr valve has kissed mrs piston.. which could be "bon voyage" MR Engine... :? Hyena had a very similair problem + shugg.... :?

Always the way. Something lets go when you are takeing it easy, In hindsite though, if you were into it and it let go, piston to Valve, that engine would be lunched. there is a chance of survival. Slim, but its there.

thought about another engine and options, or still waiting to see how terminal this one is?
