i have installed pacemaker 6cyl extractors on my BA XT, however it is producing way too much heat in the engine bay and then radiating into the car. I asked my local exhaust specialist about heat wrapping the extractors to keep in the heat and reduce engine bay temps but he insisted i get them "competition coated" for 250-300 bucks. What is benefit of comp coating instead of jst heat wrapping? N how much is it normally worth?

Coating the extractors stops the heat transferring from the exhaust gas to the metal. Wrapping stops the metal from transferring heat to the air in the engine bay. Or to put it another way, coating stops your extractors from heating up and wrap stops your extractors heating the engine bay.
Wrapped extractors usually dont last as long as they get all the heat and the wrapping stops them from getting rid of it. This often leads to cracking. Coated extractors are more durable because they dont get hot it the first place.

Damn, so you really need ceramic coated extractors for the ba, I wonder how much extra it is for the ceramic coat.

Personally I don't believe it. Tell me which you thinks going to be hotter a BA XT with extractors or an XR6T with 10 psi tune? I'd be better the turbos hotter. If the BA bays can handle the turbo, why not a set of extractors? FUNKXT - have you tried fitting a heatshield over them? With a bit of bending the factory shield is usually fitable. And it does make a significant difference. |

Yeh i have got a hold of a factory heatshield and sucessfully bent it into shape around the pacemakers, but what im aiming for is something that will maintain the higher exhaust temp right thru the extractors internally, whereas with the heat shield it escapes the extractors but stays under the shield out of the engine bay.
I agree aswell that if it can withstand a turbo thrown on, theres no probs. But i tend to thrash the car when i drive, lol thats what fords r made for n theres too much heat coming into the car, so i wanna attack the problem from the roots. thanks for all ur replies guys
