Bought a a shaved head for the xr6 fitted then figured standard cam would no longer fit ? Cam that came with the head did now after a few weeks of caning rocker gear shattered can anyone tell me why this would happen and how to fix it engine shops are a adamant that shaving wouldn't affect the cam journal but it did so they won't listen any help greatly appreciated

What Cam was fitted?
What rockers were used?
Was the cam a regrind?
How many shims were fitted?
What valve springs were fitted?
Who did the head work?

Shaving the head doesnt have any effect on the cam journals. It's also not coil binding. What it sounds like to me is timing is out with the shaved head, and the tensioner gave way, allowing cam timing to slip and punch valves into the pistons.

Your going to have to pull the head off and check the valves. Get it looked at properly to make sure no damage is done. I don't have the info handy for setting timing.

Yes, you will need a new headgasket. Cam lobes won't hit any part of the head unless your a complete numpty and somehow managed to f**k s**t up good and proper.
