Just wondering if anyone knows the symptoms of a failing Coil Pack on an EF i6 auto. Do the coil packs just die or can they develop intermittent misses?
Trying to find an intermittent miss mainly when driving at a constant speed say at 100 and other times around 60. Last edited by cruiser on Sat Apr 08, 2006 12:02 am, edited 2 times in total. |

When mine went, it would idle rough and cough and splutter as soon as the engine was put under load.

when I had a VN commy it started dropping a cylinder under load, over time gradually got worse and started dropping 2 cylinders, they run similar coil packs to EF (might even be the same). Fixed at the cost of $100 for a new one aftermarket, big dollers for genuine

Yer sounds familiar I have also done plugs, leads and fuel filter. mine misses quite a bit when it happens its like cutting in and out. Very frustrating. |

even more frustrating with a new engine ... hopefully ur prob has helped me trace my prob which could be the same thing u r experiencing..maybey even a lil bit more performance once a sort it out... will follow up on the possibillity of it being the coil pack n post my "finds" here...

get your injectors cleaned. the biggest issue we see on EF-EL falcons that cause miss's etc besides plugs leads and filters is blocked injectors...

Would faulty or dirty fuel injectors cause a miss intermittently?
I think I read somewhere that if the Coil fails to spark then the ECU stops the fuel injector for that cylinder something to do with protecting the catalytic convertor. This is why I was thinking coilpack. Any theories |

basically where the distributor would be if it had one. i took my airbox out to give myself more room as it is a bit tight to get to it. i have a gregory's manual and it tells you exactly what to do so it was pretty easy really to change over.
it may be o.k. if it is not it will show up on your fault codes so it might be better to check them first before pulling apart something that doesn't need to come apart.
