hi all,
this is in regard to an AU XR6 series 3 engine conversion in to an EF XR6. are the later AU coil packs any better than the EF/AU1 coil pack? i can get an AU engine bay loom for next to nothing and was wondering if its worth putting the AU series 2/3 coil pack plug on the EF loom so i can use the AU 2/3 coil pack? any help would be much appreciated.

hi ashcook,
i will not be using the AU loom, just remove the coil pack plug from the later AU loom and wire the plug on to my EF XR6 loom so i could use the later coil packs IF there was any advantage.

yeah ive looked through what you have posted about your mission of trying to graft the two different series together. thats why i had no plans of using the AU loom
think ill just stick with the ef/au1 coil pack, atleast i know it will work. thanks mate

a coils a coils a coil.
Power in on pin four and trigger on pins 1 2 3. there is absolutely no reason you can't fit an AU two coil to an EF or AU1. yes the AU2/3 coil has more out put, you'll also need AU2/3 spark plugs with the larger 1.3mm gap. You can push that out to 1.5mm if you check them often. |

It will work. It also gives you a better range of aftermarket leads and coils to use, as there are heaps of american cars with the later style coil plugs (both spark lead and ecu).

But it's been done a number of times before. along with fitting accel mustang coils to falcons |

ashcook wrote: It started fine. But it ran rich as hell. If you slowly picked the rpm up it would rev all the way to redline. But you had to rev it very slowly. If you did it any quicker it would shut down. You had to release the throttle completely to get it to run on otherwise it would stall. thanks for that. hey, is that your pic that i stole? i borrowed it from someones thread on here.

Use AU Series 1 coil, same plug as EF.
