ok, i posted this somewhere a few months ago and got no response. now im getting some cash i contemplating doing it, but i want some opinions first.
right, i have 2 ideas, idea number 1 was mine, number 2 my mechanics. keep in mind he knows if i go with number 2 he wont be doing all of it (his suggestion) and so either way will probably work out the same (money wise) for him. but more expencive for me. also this is for BBM which will be going on at the same time. 1) immediatly from the throttle body have a adaptor that splits in to 2 pipes, each 2 1/4", these pipes then follow where normal pipes would go, then either finish in the gap where the airbox would have been, or poke up through the front of the bonnet, each with a pod at the end. 2)purchase very large panel filter (BA etc.), then get a custom airbox bottom made up to mount onto the top of the rocker cover (using rockercover bolts) and connect straight to throttle body, keeping the top of the filter completely exposed. then getting an old skool, reverse facing bonnet scoop (from a tori or VK etc.) im keen to try option 2, however it will be much more expencive. whats your say?

is option 1 legal with a pod sticking throught the bonnet? unless u plan on having a scoop

Mine may not look the best but as far as practical use goes it does its job well. I have the EL intake from the throttle body which goes into a part from the EF intake which goes around the TB and that is connected to a 3' pipe system all the way to the air box.
Simple but efective. I you want a photo i can take one... But as i said... not the best looking intake. 
Buuut as far as your options goes probally option 1 would be the go... Nice dyno figure too mate!!

yes, if its possible i would like a photo of yours,
as for leaglities, im no fussed, i would get a scoop over it,but the problem would be the hole to begin with, as the bonet support would nee to be cut. im a bit surprised you said to do option 1, i thought 2 would have made more power?

hmmm option number to aint bad bad the rocker cover gets pretty hot, i would have a forward facing scoop to hammer the air in there, similar to a shaker i guess, not a bad idea but i dont see y the hell you would bother i couldnt see the gains being worth it

i suggested the forward scoop, but my mechanic said the revers facing ones are better as they create a pressure difference at the windscreen, that causes the air to be sucked in, or something.

Im savving the money up to do a very similar thing to ur no.2 except im gona have a forward facing scoop, it will be more beneficial. [how many cars with top of engine intercoolers do u c with a rearward facing scoop??? none!]

hmm, point taken.
but... if they didnt have some avantage, they never would have bought them out to begin with. anyway, i dont want to argue, i am after opinions, and thats exactly what im getting.

Check out what I've done in my gallery dude ...a FUNCTIONAL scoop that frees up more air into the snorkel.
OK, not quite a 20 cent jobbie, and the scoop might not be everyone's cup of tea ...but it does free up outside air to enter from the top of the bonnet into the snorkel. I've always wondered how the snorkel was supposed to pick up ANY air in that cramped std bonnet recess! I can definitely hear & feel air being drawn into the snorkel via the scoop, and air will be caught by the scoop & channelled into the snorkel at higher speed

What happens if you are driving in the rain with a front facing scoop wouldnt it be forcing water into the throttle body?. Or atleast soaking the air filter restricting the airflow?

In my case, I still have the snorkel going to the standard airbox (with a K&N in it), but the airbox has drain holes in the bottom at the best run-off point. However, I always slap masking tape over my scoop mesh whenever I wash the car!

the reson why cars with top mounted intercoolers have there scoops facing forward is because the air has to travel throught the fins of the intercooler for the intercooler to work, with a pannel filter it sucks air.
so it might be better to get a rear facing scoop just because of when it rains and the filter will suck air doesnt matter just as long as it cold air. |

If you were keen, your could remove you airbox and winscreen washer bottle. Relocate the washer bottle to where the airbox was. Then in the corner where the washer bottle was, mount a pod filter with an enclosure of some type to prevent hot air from the engine bay being sucked in. Then have a small scoop mount above it. It'd probly look a bit strange, depending on the type of scoop. but it would be very effective and relatively cheap.
