Hey guys, my AU series 1 engine is slowly on its way out, it running well at the moment but it has a fair few ks on it.
Im considering a full engine swap, ive used the search function with no prevail haha, so im guessing my best option is to upgrade to a AUII or AUIII engine.

Just wondering what kind of price range im looking at here for the whole thing and what kind of problems I could encounter when attempting this transplant.

Sorry if this stuff has already been covered, just new to this stuff.

if i were you, i would buy a Au motor and fully rebuild it..that way you know it wont be on its way out whereas if u buy a complete motor and swap, there are no guarantees of it being a good one..

I think around 700 bucks for a complete running motor is where they start.

You only need to change the air box if you want to keep the bbm insted of your std manifold.

if you are worried about the quality of the engine that you buy second hand, just buy from a wreckers that will give you at least a 3 month warrenty on it.

Well that sounds like the best way to do it, so im guessing it would amount to roughly the same to do a rebuilt then put it in. Is there an approx figure i should be looking at?

Just to give you an idea of costs..
A one full day engine swap AU3 to EB2 is about $1100 at Narellan in Sydney. 6 months 24k klms warranty.
Something similar should be available in Vic. and AU to AU should be cheaper.
AU3 engines with low to fairly low klms are in the market place for $500 to $550 with 3months warranty and up.
Have you considered asking for some members to come and help you put one in, for the price of a BBQ and fluids [some for the car as well], you should get away with it very economically.
If you pull the engine, or even if you get it done, make sure you replace the front and rear gearbox seals and the engine rear main seal with new ones.

Who knows of anyone in Melb doing AU-EB conversions?

I found the wreckers at Narellan by looking up Ford specialist recyclers in the phone book and ringing around.
It's old fashioned, but it worked for me. I ended up buying a low klm EL engine in Melb and put it in myself.
