G'day ford moders, first post.

I have made myself a problem and I don't know how to solve it :

I have an ef xr6 engine in my ef. I was going to get the head set up for boost but instead I bought an au vct head already set up for boost( head with valves, springs and cam, no rockers) for $500 (for ripped off. So can I take the vct off and and plug the gap at front?

Hey man,

All you do is pull out the VCT cam (which you said you don't have) and the phasor and fit a normal AU cam and vernier gear... You pull the oil supply line off and fit the pressure sender straight into the block like normal and fit an appropriate bolt into the oil supply hole in the phasor housing...

You can pull out the solenoid and plug that hole with an appropriate bolt too...

Is the solenoid in the phasor housing leaking? They seem to leak through the two electrical pins and dribble oil everywhere... If not and you don't want the solenoid the VCT stuff isn't any good if you don't have the phasor and cam) then PM as I wouldn't be interested to acquire a spare VCT solenoid for mine in case it leaks...

Cheers,
Tim

as timmy said,
I did exactly this on my ed when I turbo'd it..
I removed the vct cam and cam gear then fitted non vct cam and cam gear..

I left the solenoid unit on the front of the head but had no power going to it, so it was vct by looks only...lol

at first it still had oil running into it, it was ok like that because when there is no power to the vct solenoid the solenoid closes off oil supply, but I did end up removing the oil line all together and put a bolt in the solenoid housing

upload it to photobucket and then copy the img code into the thread... photos come up bigger and easier to see than uploading through here...

That phasor is useless now the 4 bolts have been removed from it and the whole lot is useless without the phasor housing that fits into the front of the head... Any It is also useless without the VCT rocker cover to seal onto the phasor housing...

Unless you have have something made to fill the hole up...

Cheers,
Tim

The only positive was that the head has 2 thou shaved off it , it's ported , has bigger valves and higher quality conicle valve springs , and I talked to the business that worked the head and they confirm it was only run for 2 weeks before the guy crashed his car. knowing that , how much do you think it's worth ?
